Quick Update 9/27/2020

Wow, life gets crazy fast. It has been way too long since our last post. So here is an update on what’s been going on with our lives.

We have been debt free for over a month now, we have converted a 14 foot covered trailer into a camper. (Although Lydia insists we still call it a trailer.) We have spent two weekends camping in it already, it has worked out great. I am working on a post about the build out process, so if the Lord wills be on a look out for that post. We have been able to take more family walks and I (Mike) have been able to take more walks with Lydia, so Bethany can have some time to accomplish things she has wanted to do. We were able to meet our monthly budget goal, and I was able to work 20 – 30 hours less a week.

I am now doing Uber and Doordash full time, and no I haven’t quit my day job yet. They have canceled all transportation at my day job for the time being. They offered to let me voluntarily take time off with no pay. They said they want me back, so this is an amazing opportunity for me to try Uber and Doordash full time and still have a safety net!!! Isn’t God good? This is a huge answer to prayer. This also gives me more time to work on the website and I was hoping woodworking but…..

God is opening doors for us and although we are not sure where they are going to lead, I want to tell you a little bit about what we feel He is telling us. I mentioned we have been taking more family walks, that means we have had more time to talk and dream. I believe we have mentioned before that we have had some interest in selling our house. We also have had two of my coworkers interested in buying it. I jokingly told one of my co-workers we sell it for 145% of what we bought it for. She was very interested but then a previous offer they had made on a house was accepted. That got Bethany and I interested is how much our house was possibility worth. We started doing some research. I had another coworker call me and ask if we were serious about selling. I told him yes for 164% of what we paid for it. He was super excited and even brought his family over to look at it. The loved the property and started looking into a loan to be able to buy the house.

At this point Bethany and I thought it was prudent to talk to a Realtor to make sure we weren’t ripping him off or we weren’t missing out on crazy sellers market. When we talked to her she thought that the 164% was on the low end but in the ball park of what our house was worth. So we gave my coworker another week ( which turn into almost 2) to try to get the loan. He hasn’t been able to yet so this past week we called the Realtor and said we would like to list our house. Then she blew me away and said she wants to try to list it for 209%. She warned us that this is a high price but things are selling right now so why not. So, if the Lord wills. 🙂

Now Bethany and I have the next few days to try to get it ready to show the house. This means getting rid of a lot of things. This also means we need to figure out whats next for us, like were are we going to live? This brings us back to the walks and talks. Lord willing we have narrowed it down to two immediate options. 1) My dad was already planning on building a pole barn in his back yard and we could help pay to make it a two story building and put an apartment upstairs, or 2) We could buy a nicer RV to live in full time, probably starting out on my parents property.

During one of our walks and talks we asked each other “where do you see us in 5-10 years?” We both had the same answer, Texas! So, “if the Lord wills,” that is our long term plan for now. We have no idea how that looks, but that’s part of the adventure. So as we sort through things and get rid of things a common questions we have been asking each other when we are stumped is, “would we take this to Texas, or on a skoolie?” (We haven’t given up on that dream yet and that is still in the running for a RV /home that is mobile.) That has helped us get rid of a lot of “STUFF!” (we have thrown out 7 trash bags and counting)

Please keep us in your prayers as we do our best to follow God through these times. It amazes me how emotionally draining it has been to get rid of and sort things, and on top of that there is a lot of physical work and stress also.

Prayer requests;

– Now that the debt is paid off, figuring out family-work balance

– We are trying to sell our house. Pray that God leads us as we make decisions about what to do with all of our stuff

– That we continue to keep God’s will in mind as we plan our future

– Whether Mike should Keep his day job and if so, for how long?

– For guidance with our income sources

– For Lydia, as this is a lot of change in her life and she doesn’t always understand whats going on.

Anyone have extra money they just want to want to give away to a fun cause?
