Our GOALS and DREAMS

Hello Everyone!! We are the Fischer’s! Mike and Bethany . . . Lydia . . . and Mozzie and Kyah to be exact!

9 months ago . . . After 8 years of marriage we (Mike and I) sat down and revisited our goals and dreams! They’ve changed and morphed a little over the years! A goal that we set when we first got married is to pay off my Student Loans in 10 years!! When we sat down last October, we realized that paying what we had been paying every month towards the debt wasn’t going to pay it off in the 2 years that we had left! So we crunched some numbers (definitely Mike’s forte, not mine) and realized that if we pushed a little harder our goal wasn’t that far out of reach and if we pushed harder still we could even pay off the debt early!! Mike listens to podcasts (eye roll) and he likes to share his new knowledge with me! He had heard on one of his pod casts that “A statement closes your mind and a question opens your mind!” (Thanks, the survival podcast) So we challenged ourselves, instead of saying “We can’t afford this!” or “We can’t pay off the debt!” we asked ourselves “How can we pay off the debt at our original goal, our 10 year anniversary?”

Mike is the self appointed Transportation Director at a Rehab Center, he also drivers for Uber and Door Dash! He has been working 80 to 85 hour weeks, doing everything he can to make money, he even started selling his Plasma, weird but profitable! Our Bible Study Group (YABS) went through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and we’re charging ahead with Gazelle like intensity! Then COVID-19 came and we didn’t know what to think about our plans! In a Zoom conversation with our Bible Study Group (YABS) we were telling them that we were still on track and it was looking like we could pay off our debt in a year, except I misspoke and said 6 months instead of 12 months, my bad! Mike said “Challenge accepted” and we intensified our efforts!

Oh I guess I should mention that I am a Preschool Teacher and our daughter Lydia goes to preschool with me! I teach 4 days a week and last October I started working as many extra hours as I could get! It was harder for me to add jobs to my resume because I had to consider taking a toddler with me or finding a babysitter for her. COVID-19 shut down the preschool for 2 months, but we have been back up and running for almost two months now and we are adjusting . . .

So here we are July 15, 2020 and we are 76 days away from paying off our debt and we can’t wait! We are looking forward to being debt-free and the freedoms that it will give us! Where do we go from here?? Possibilities are endless, but we are looking into buying a school bus and converting it into our home, traveling around the USA and possibly abroad! Look up Skoolie Videos on YouTube, they are so cool!! There are so many adventures waiting out there for us to explore!
